I will be curious to see what reading options grab your attention, Shifa! In addition to the epics, there are all kinds of folktale readings you can do in the second half of the semester. Do you know the name Natesa Sastri? He was a pioneer in collecting South Indian folklore, and he wrote some beautiful books; you can see them here — I think it is so cool that he wrote those books over a hundred years ago, and now we can read them for free online: Books by Natesa Sastri
I think that's really neat that you come from a South Indian background! I think this is such a great class to explore more of your culture as there is so much information and we have such a wonderful professor. I'm personally don't know a whole lot but I feel like I'm beginning to learn more about your culture and I love it!
I find it really fascinating to hear that you have a South Indian background and that you are taking this class! I did not know anything about your culture or the culture presented in the class prior to taking it but I am enjoying learning about it. I would imagine it has been fun for you so far to explore deeper into some aspects of your culture.
I am from a North India background and I also took this class to get to know more about my culture and religion. Maybe our different regions of India have a lot more similarities than we think. It is cool knowing I am not the only one trying to get to know more about my own culture through this class.
